Information you give us
The website collects your email address only when you join the launch list, ask for a download link, or contact support. We use it for that purpose and for product updates. Every product update includes a way to unsubscribe.
Support and the help assistant
When you contact support, from the website or the app, we keep what you send: your email, your message and, if you choose to include it, a diagnostic report with your Mac and app versions, which AI services are connected and recent error messages. The report never includes your AI keys, your licence key or your book's text, and the app shows it to you before it is sent. Questions you ask the help assistant on this website are answered by an AI model through our hosting provider and are not stored unless you send the conversation to support. We may use an AI tool to help draft replies; a person reviews them before they are sent.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by our payment provider, acting as merchant of record. It processes your payment details. We never see or store your card number.
Downloads and website measurement
We record anonymous download counts, including the operating system and referring page. We do not store IP addresses for this measurement, and we do not use advertising trackers.
Your books and settings
The Author Magic desktop app keeps your books and settings on your computer, and your AI keys in your Mac's Keychain. We do not receive or store your manuscript.
AI features
The app sends text to an AI service only when you use an AI feature, and only to the service you connected and chose for that job (for example Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or OpenRouter), using your own account and subject to that service's terms. Models you run on your own Mac, such as through Ollama or LM Studio, keep the text on your computer. Author Magic does not receive that text.
Licence activation
Activation sends your licence key and an anonymous device ID to our licensing provider so the app can confirm your licence.
